The readings of this day speak about the new life that the Holy Church offers in Christ.
The second book of Kings begins with the story of the resurrection of the son of the Shunammite woman from death at the hands of the prophet Elisha, which is an example for Mortal mankind that needed the son of God to come and put His mouth on our mouth, His eyes on our eyes, His hands on our hands and His feet on our feet so that the heat returns to our dead body through His living body.
“When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed.
He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord.
And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm.
and the child opened his eyes. he said, “Pick up your son.” (2 Kings 4)
The book of Isaiah announces what the son of God will offer in the fullness of time to give mankind the treasures and riches of new life.
“Thus says the Lord to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held– To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut:
‘I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron.
I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places,” (Isaiah 45)
And in the book of Proverbs about the sacraments of our life in the church.
” Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table.
“Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.” (Proverbs 9)
The book of Job reveals the falsity of the righteousness of mankind, which causes them not to turn to God, their Creator and Maker.
“If you are righteous, what do you give Him? Or what does He receive from your hand?
But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night” (Job 35)
The soul cries out in the Matins psalm for the Lord to lift it up from the gates and the power of death.”Have mercy on me,OLord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death,” (Psalms 9)
And in the Matins gospel,it talks about how the Jews rejected the head of life and so the vineyard was given to others.
“So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.” And when they heard it they said, “Certainly not!”
Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone’?” (Luke 20)
Pauline Epistle calls everyone to prayer as a source of calmness of life and stability of its course.”Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1 Timothy 2)
And that the son of God is the only mediator of mankind with the Father and is the source of its salvation.
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself a ransom for all,” (1 Timothy 2)
Catholic Epistle explains the role of man in his life in Christ and in his salvation in building, praying, keeping and waiting.
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude 1)
It also proclaims the role of a Christian towards his brothers to save them from perdition.
“And on some have compassion, making a distinction;
but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”(Jude 1)
In Praxis, it is about the limitations of human efforts and the possibilities of man for his survival from natural dangers.
“On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands.
Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up.” (Acts 27)
The psalm of the liturgy repeats the same verse from the same psalm to emphasize the soul’s supplication to God to save her from death.
“You who lift me up from the gates of death,
That I may tell of all Your praise In the gates of the daughter of Zion.” (Psalms 9)
The Gospel of the liturgy concludes with the proclamation of eternal life in the person of the son of God, who, according to the
expression of the sign Origen, gives us the mental and Eucharistic Manna of eternal life
“Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John 6)
